The 2022 Hyundai Palisade Calligraphy AWD is an exquisite blend of room, utility, and everyday luxury, and it’s been designed to exceed your expectations at a price that won’t break the bank.
It was a beautiful day in North Texas when the Palisade showed up for inspection. The leaves had only just begun to change color, and the scorching heat of a protracted summer was now beginning to abate. It sparkled in the sunshine in Moonlight Cloud, a dark navy color with a tinge of silver.
Light flashed off the roof, the windshield, the etched rims, and the passenger windows, highlighting the grille’s strong lines and the carriage’s expansiveness. Impressive and evocative, its elegant, understated design evoked classic prestige automobiles and set a precedent for opulence.
The devil, as they say, is in the details, and they are what you will adore.
The Palisade deserves more than a cursory glance and a test drive if you’re in the market for a full-size sport utility vehicle. Even though the Calligraphy is the most luxurious trim level available, Hyundai has become a true powerhouse in the automotive industry over the last five years, and the Palisade is just one more illustration of this.

The Palisade checks off so many of my boxes for a family car, including many driving modes, quilted leather accents, a microfiber microsuede top, enough room for everyone, and rear temperature control.
The Palisade’s numerous cupholders, cargo space, push-button control of the 60/40 folding third-row seat, and light-bringing moon roof contribute to its lavish, roomy, special, and custom feel. So do the charging ports in the third row, in the captain’s chairs of the driver and front passenger for the second row, and in multiple ports for the front occupants.

I like driving at such settings due to the mode’s agile response, sharp turn-in, and exciting involvement. The steering wheel’s design was another something I like; it has a comfortable form and no unnecessary embellishments. The room, USB ports, and two-panel moon canopy were all big hits with my kids. Several people have remarked on how much more open and airy the car seems as a result.
While testing the Hyundai Palisade AWD, which comes in four different versions (learn more here) and starts at just over $33,000, we averaged just under 22 mpg while doing a mix of city driving (transporting kids to and from school and running errands) and highway driving (635 and the Toll Road to Plano). Its time in Texas let it to experience a wide range of road conditions, from brand new freeway to gravel-covered roads to paths that could hardly be called streets, and it conquered them all with amazing elegance and strength.
