The 2023 Beta Evo 80 Trial Bikes: An Early Preview

Beta has added the Evo 80 Junior and Evo 80 Senior to its trials motorbike collection less than a month after introducing its full-size Evo models. The Italian company is unique among trials motorcycle manufacturers in that it offers not one but two models with 80cc engines. Despite having the identical carbureted, liquid-cooled, 80cc two-stroke engine, six-speed gearbox, and steel frame, these bikes had different suspension systems, wheels, brakes, weights, and dimensions.

There are two versions of the Beta Evo 80 trials motorcycle available. The Evo 80 Junior is the smaller version, and it’s ideal for riders aged 9 to 12.

Nonadjustable Paioli 33mm conventional fork with 6.3 inches of travel is standard on the Evo 80 Junior, while a Paioli 38mm conventional fork with 6.9 inches of travel is standard on the bigger Evo 80 Senior. The shocks on both may be customized in terms of spring preload and dampening, although the smaller machine has a shorter travel distance of 5.7 inches compared to the bigger machine’s 5.9 inches.

The Evo 80 Junior rolls on wheels measuring 19 inches in the front and 17 inches in the back shod with Vee Rubber V308 tires, while the Evo 80 Senior rides on wheels measuring 21 inches in the front and 18 inches in the back and is outfitted with Michelin Trial Competition X11 rubber. Additionally, the Evo 80 Junior has 11/54 gearing, which is a larger ratio than the 11/60 ratio of the Evo 80 Senior.

The Evo 80 Senior is the bigger of the two and is recommended for pilots between the ages of 11 and 15 according to the Italian manufacturer. Claimed to weigh in at 146 pounds dry, that’s 14 more than the smaller model.

Both the Evo 80 Junior and Senior use a four-piston front caliper and a two-piston rear caliper, but the discs on the former measure 175 millimeters and 150 millimeters, respectively, while those on the latter measure 185 millimeters and 160 millimeters.

The Evo 80 Junior has an alleged seat height of 24.4 inches, while the Evo 80 Senior claims a seat height of 26.0 inches. Both the front and rear have a ground clearance of 11.8 inches and 12.8 inches, respectively. Both machines have different wheelbase lengths, with the smaller one measuring 47.6 inches and the larger one 48.4 inches. Beta states that the dry weight of the Evo 80 Junior is at 132 pounds, while the Evo 80 Senior weighs in at 146 pounds.

The Evo 80 Junior and Evo 80 Senior, Beta’s smallest displacement MY23 Evo trials bikes, will be available for purchase in December with MSRPs of $4,599 and $4,999, respectively.
